Product Reviews: Kinnikinnick S’morables Graham Style Crackers and Graham Style Crumbs – gluten free, nut free, dairy free

My summers just got a little sweeter with these tasty gluten free graham crackers from Kinnikinnick!

S’mores are a sinful summer staple at my house for backyard fire pits and camping excursions, and I often feel little wistful that I can’t have a s’more that tastes as good as the original.  And the comments of ” Oh, Karen, I wish you could have one!” get a little old.  No more though, and I am thrilled!  I love anything that helps enable eating and living gluten free a little simpler and inclusive.

I think these gluten free graham crackers are the closest to “regular” graham crackers I have found.  They are plenty sweet and a little thicker and dense than their non gluten free counterpart.  The flavor is what I like though, they are tasty! Nice crunch with that graham flavor I have missed for the past five years.

These graham style crackers from Kinnikinnick come in an eight ounce box and retail for $4.99 at my local grocery store, Harmon’s.  They come in a plastic wrapped tray to preserve freshness.

Appearance wise, they are smaller and narrower than traditional graham crackers.  They smell yummy, despite the slight off brown color. They don’t have that light, golden brown that traditional graham crackers have.  But really, it isn’t a big deal.  Pictured above is one cracker on the top and and one on the bottom. A marshmallow and a square of Hershey’s chocolate fit perfectly between the two crackers – no breaking needed!

Also a nice bonus,  the smaller cracker size makes a perfect snack for small hands when broken in half, so they are kid friendly as well.

Thankfully, Kinnikinnick  got smart and now sell their graham crackers already crushed into crumbs, to use in recipes and to make graham crusts for pies and treats like magic bars.  Each box weighs 10.5  ounces and is the same price as the graham style crackers. Again, the flavor is great, although I have found that I do not need to add as much butter when using them as a crust or a base for a dessert.  You can’t tell the crust or dessert is gluten free when these crumbs are used, and I try to keep an extra box or two in  my pantry for impromptu dessert ideas, like cheesecake or key lime pie.  Love it!

We just tried these too, and are equally pleased. My five-year-old is so happy to have graham crackers again (that actually seem like the ones he remembers).

I am excited to try these. I have seen them in the store but was hesitant to buy. I am excited about the idea of using them for key lime pie crust. You said you reduced the butter for crusts..by how much can I ask? thank you!

We have tried these with excellent results. We actually use the Kinnikinnick prepared crumbs when making pies. I have gotten great reviews, even from the family members who do not have celiac….and now I don’t even make two separate pies.
