Product Review: Lucy’s Cookies – Ginger Snap, Chocolate, and Maple Bliss
Posted on | February 17, 2012 | No Comments
Lucy’s sent me these complimentary cookies to try out. I tried their chocolate, maple bliss and ginger snap flavors. They retail for $5.99 at my local grocery store and each box contain, 16 cookies per box. These cookies are allergy friendly- nut free, egg free, dairy free, and – obviously- gluten free.
When it comes to cookies, I prefer soft and chewy cookies that don’t crumble or make a mess. I admit, I felt a bit cautious with Lucy’s gluten free cookies, as they are typically not what I prefer. I was worried I wouldn’t like them, and would just end up tossing them. I hate being wasteful!
Thankfully, that didn’t happen. All three cookies were crisp without being hard or difficult to bite into. Likewise, all three cookies featured the same texture and size, the only difference was the flavor. These gluten free cookies featured a soft crunch, with a medium crumb with only a little crumbling. I didn’t notice any grittiness or graininess that can be common with gluten free cookies.
What really drew me in as the flavor though. The flavors were pure and robust and very addicting! The chocolate cookie tasted just like the tops of oreo cookies- rich chocolate without being sickly sweet. In fact, these cookies would make perfect mini ice cream sandwiches if you added a small scoop of ice cream in the middle. The ginger snap flavor actually has chipotle and ginger that brought a kick of spice to the cookie. Loved that! Finally the maple flavor reminded me of an oatmeal cookie minus the actual oatmeal. The maple flavor was a little more subtle, but tasted nicely balanced.
Overall, I surprised myself by enjoying these cookies, and found them to be a perfect accompaniment to a steaming mug of cocoa on a chilly afternoon. My children liked the maple bliss and chocolate flavors, but found the ginger snap to be too spicy and strong for them.
Rating: 4 1/2 stars
Pros: nice, balanced flavors, allergy friendly
Cons: pricey
