This packaged dry bread mix was provided complimentary by Chebe. I felt excited to try it, because I am a huge fan of Brazilian cheese bread, and this mix is a way to have it quickly, easily, and freshly made in my own kitchen.
I have heard wonderful things about this brand, but hadn”t tried it myself yet. My sister loves the breadsticks mix. I was nervous and excited to try their products. Is it possible to have an easy and yummy gluten free bread mix?
I started by adding 2 T oil, 1 c shredded cheddar cheese and 2 eggs to the mix. Then slowly added 1/4 c water. I kneaded the dough until smooth. I then divided the dough into 16 pieces, rolled each piece into a ball and it was ready to bake. The dough stayed together very well and I had no problem rolling them into balls. This is one of the easiest doughs I have ever worked with.
They baked for 15 minutes in a 375 degree oven. After letting them cool about ten minutes my husband, who is not a Celiac, and I tried them out. The outside was crisp like I would expect a “regular” roll to be. The inside was soft and chewy, completely different than the outside. The roll stayed together very well and did not crumble at all.
It had a mild, bready taste. The cheese made the roll more flavorful. I did not notice an aftertaste. My gluten- consuming husband loved them. In fact, he had five with dinner!
The next day I ate some for breakfast and liked them even better. The texture of the inside and outside were now almost the same. The outside was a little softer, while the inside wasn”t as chewy. The taste was still amazing.
This is a solid bread mix, which my whole family loved. For best results I would make them the day before. You may also substitute your choice of cheese in the mix. For an authentic Brazilian cheese bread, or Pao de Queijo, use queso fresco or another Mexican cheese of your choice.
Rating: 5 stars
Pros: Great Flavor and texture, very easy to make, affordable- retail price is around $3
Cons: The texture of the roll is best the second day
