I am the first to admit I don’t have much experience with chutney, and have only recently been brave enough to try it. This Mango Papaya Chutney – Exotic Island Blend – by Nature Isle was a great way for me to experiment with different uses and flavors.
This gluten free chutney is $4.95 for a nine ounce bottle. It is chunky, fresh, and it simply looks good. The yellows, oranges, and reds from the mango, papaya, roasted red peppers, and pineapple makes it look tasty. This chutney is a blend of sweet, tangy, and a bit of subtle spice, all compliments of the fruit blend, cayenne and cider vinegar in this product. I would not consider this chutney spicy at all, and it is ideal for those that like flavor, but not heat or strong spice.
I tried this gluten free chutney with tortilla chips as a salsa, as a relish for bratwurst and hot dogs, and as a garnish for grilled tilapia. I was pleased to discover the chutney was versatile and quite delicious with each meal. It really added a tropical feel to my dishes, and almost made me want to hop on a plane for a warm beach destination (or maybe it was the cold, cloudy skies . . . but I know the tropical flavor of the chutney helped!)
Overall, a solid product that uses a high quality ingredients. Not bad, Nature isle, not bad.
Pros: Nice balance between sweet and tangy, versatile
Cons: a solid product, but didn’t “knock my socks off”
Rating: 4 stars
