Product Review: Lizbeth Lane Gourmet Cuisine Lemon Piccata Simmer Sauce

Warning! These sauces may not be  produced on gluten free lines and cross contamination may be an issue. Beware if you have celiac disease or have a sensitivity.

This complimentary sauce was provided by Lizbeth Lane Gourmet Cuisine. They make four all natural simmer sauces – roasted red pepper, lemon piccata, mediterranean tomato, and marsala and tarragon.

The first sauce I tried was Lemon Piccata. To prepare my meal using this sauce,  I used chicken cutlets and dusted them with corn starch. I sauted the chicken for three minutes on each side. I added the sauce and let it simmer for ten minutes. It was then ready to eat with a side dish of steamed rice.

I have never tried lemon piccata sauce before. I expected a mild lemon taste, and I had high hopes since the sauce had a fresh lemon aroma. However, it tasted more like chicken stock, with an artificial lemon aftertaste. This was especially disappointing and confusing because it claims to be all natural.

The sauce was also difficult to taste on the chicken. The flavor seemed weak and the sauce appeared fairly thin, but smooth in texture with the exception of capers. Strangely enough, when I added the sauce to rice, the the flavor was overwhelming. The lemon was more pronounced, but so was the synthetic taste. So strange!

I would keep this sauce on the shelf to use in a pinch, however, I would not use it on a regular basis.
