Product Review: Cerealvit gluten free & organic breakfast cereals – corn flakes, coffee flakes & multi grain

Posted on | August 6, 2009 | 10 Comments

A yummy way to start the day! I am loving these new breakfast cereals from Cerealvit.  Cerealvit is made by an Italian manufacturer and is distributed here in the US by Riega Foods, starting last month.  These boxes weigh  13.25 ounces- a little larger than your standard gluten free specialty cereal. These cereals are regularly tested and certified gluten free.
I tried the following threeCeralvit cereals:
Cerealvit Con Flakes: These corn flakes are much thicker and crunchier than regular corn flakes. Because they are so substantial, they provide a satisfying crunch to your morning without any sogginess. The flavor is great and pure, since there is no added sugar. These also make great coating for chicken and fish if crushed and seasoned. Definately my fave gluten free corn flakes so far!
Ingredients: organic corn, organic rice malt and salt
Cerealvit Coffee Flakes: This gluten free cereal is made of corn & flax flakes coated with Italian coffee.  This cereal is quite crunchy and is the sweetest of the three cereals I sampled. The coffee flavor seems balanced with the flavor of the cereal – strong, but not overbearing. If you enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, these just might be for you.
Ingredients: organic corn, organic sugar, organic coffee, organic rice syrup, flaxseed, Omega 3 fish oil, salt
Cerealvit Benevit Multi Grain: These light and tasty flakes are made from whole grain buckwheat and rice. This gluten free cereal isn’t as crunchy as the corn flakes; it softens a bit more in milk but still maintains a light crunch.  I really enjoyed the flavor of this cereal- it is full and satisfying, but not very sweet.
Ingredients: organic rice, organic buckwheat flour, organic cane sugar, organic rice syrup, fat free milk powder, salt
I am a big cereal fan, and I think these are now at the top of my list.  These are a nice, low sugar option that I plan to keep in my pantry. I am not aware of any online resource for ordering these cereals yet, so watch your local natural foods retailer or grocery store to get them in stock. The Riega foods website also has a printable form you may give to your local grocery store so they can order it.
Pros: no sogginess, excellent flavor, organic
Cons: Maybe hard to find in stores for now
Rating: 5 stars

Some of these foods sound great and I’m new to the gluten-free experience. Where can I find locations (web sites, etc.) to purchase some of these foods (if they’re not available in my local stores)?
