Gluten Free in Philadelphia
Posted on | July 3, 2009 | 2 Comments
Next week my family and I are headed to Philly and State College PA ( Go PSU!) for vacation. I am so excited! We will be visiting friends and our old neighborhood, and I am so excited to see some lush green trees again.
I would love to review some restaurants while I am there. Have any yummy suggestions? I really don’t want to be stuck with Glutino pretzels and string cheese all week.
In the meantime, I should have some yummy cereal and pizza reviews up soon, as well as my July give-away announcement coming early next week.

Oh man, you are in for good things. Philadelphia is a gluten free mecca of restaurants. I consider myself lucky to live there.
Here is my list:
Favorites:
Rx (BYO)
Cochin (tasty french inspired food, BYO)
Lolita (which doesn’t take reservations on the weekend, and is TO DIE FOR mexican food, also BYO Tequila for margheritas)
Bindi (Indian food version of the place above, not QUITE as good at gluten free, but that’s saying something since Lolita is almost completely gluten free. With Bindi there are only a few menu items I can’t eat. BYO alcohol for fruity mixed drinks)
Marigold Kitchen (I’ve never been to it but it is supposed to be amazing)
And here’s a big list of ones I haven’t gone to. Some of them are pretty pricey.
Amada
Fitzwater Cafe
Radicchio
Magianno’s Little Italy
Little Fish
Osteria
Gayle
Tinto
Distrito
Pearl
Pasta Pomodoro
Cafe Estelle
Memphis Taproom
Vetri
Bourbon Blue (far away)
Melograno
Rae
Rouge
Bliss
Bistro 7
Zocalo
Bar Ferdinand
L’Oca
Devil’s Den
Della Citta
They are all online, so you can figure out which ones are BYOs or not.
Also, google “Appetite for Awareness” and you may be able to find a list of the participants for this year. It’s a yearly conference in Philly that started a few years back where local restaurants show off their gluten free cooking skills.
Enjoy Philly!!
